St. Louis MO (SPX) Feb 20, 2008 LaBarge has received additional orders totaling $3.5 million from Modular Mining Systems to produce ruggedized electronic assemblies used in mine information management systems. The boom cycle in the mining industry has spurred strong growth in the natural resources market sector for LaBarge in the last 18 months. Production of the new orders is expected to continue at the Pittsburgh facility through June 2008. The Company expects to receive additional follow-on orders. "LaBarge's business with Modular Mining has expanded significantly over the last few years as we have taken on production of an increasingly complex array of electronic assemblies for Modular's innovative product line," said Craig LaBarge, chief executive officer and president. "We are delighted to support Modular as their manufacturing partner during a time of unprecedented growth for the company, thus allowing Modular to concentrate on developing and marketing products that increase mining success and safety for its customers." Since 2001, LaBarge's Pittsburgh operation has been the exclusive, turnkey manufacturer of electronic hardware for Modular Mining's state-of-the-art mine management systems, which are used in open pit and underground mining operations worldwide. The equipment increases mining productivity by using GPS (global positioning systems) technology to track mining vehicles and unmanned hauling trucks, and monitor mining conditions and operations in real-time.
